He is Risen!

τί ζητεῖτε τὸν ζῶντα μετὰ τῶν νεκρῶν· οὐκ ἔστιν ὧδε, ἀλλὰ ἠγέρθη.

  1. The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

  2. He is risen indeed! Alleluia!

  3. I saw painting this in Colmar, displayed in the hall of an old monastery. While this side of the diptych is incredibly powerful, it is only after viewing the other side that the real potency of the resurrection scene takes place. Grunewald was a master of misery: the painstaking detail he put into the sours and splinters in Christ’s skin, the curled up finger tips, always remind me of the utter misery of my sin, and the magnificence I share in His resurrection. Quite possibly my favorite painting.

    • My favorite, too. Very cool that you saw it. I understand it’s quite large.
